It's Been an Awarding Week for our Performing Arts Department!

Read about the different awards our students have received for their talented performances.

14th ANNUAL NATIONAL YOUTH ARTS AWARDS
Two of our students received awards for their amazing performances in 9 to 5 The Musical at the 14th Annual National Youth Arts Awards.
 
Awards:
Lead Performance in a Musical: Zoe W. ’19 as Violet Newstead
Supporting Performance in a Musical: Jordi K. ‘19 as Roz Keith

 
 
DANCE TEAM COMPETITION AT KIDS ARTISTIC REVUE
dTHS Varsity, JV, and Hip Hop Dance Teams participated in their last competition of the year at KAR (Kids Artistic Revue) in Redondo Beach. 
 
All their dances placed and a few received special awards, including: 
 
  • An invitation to dance in New York.
  • Top Overall scores in "Ghoomar" (their Bollywood dance), "Heaven I Know,” "Rise Up," and "Don't Change."
  • Highest Point Awards in our category, "Feelin Myself" and "Belief."
  • Showcase Award to one of the highest scoring routines in the entire competition, "Don't Change."
 
 
ADVANCED JAZZ COMBO PERFORMED AND COMPETED AT SUPER JAZZ AT THE RANCH
The Advanced Jazz Combo performed at Super Jazz at the Ranch, a jazz festival and competition at West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch. The combo played well, with a sense of purpose and community, and received the honor of 2nd place in the "Advanced Jazz Combo Division."  Competing in our division were top combos from LA area public schools such as Santa Monica High School, Workman High School, and Saugus High School.
 
Our dream-themed set for this festival included:
"Dreams So Real" by Robert Watson
"Round Midnight" by Thelonius Monk, Cootie Williams, and Bernie Hanighen
"Dreaming" by Avishai Cohen (our three seniors were featured on this piece)
"Come On, Come Over" by Jaco Pastorius and Bob Herzog
