Independent/Directed Studies

In this program, students go beyond the traditional de Toledo curriculum to request and design courses in areas of interest.

Senior Independent Study

A senior who wishes to pursue an area of special interest can apply for independent study through deTOP. Under the supervision of a de Toledo teacher, students are guided through the process of developing a course of study that meets high intellectual standards along with rigorous state criteria. Topics could include fiction and nonfiction writing, play and film production, as well as scientific and historical research.

Directed Studies

Two or more students in the 10th through 12th grades may petition deTOP for a faculty-led directed studies class in an area of personal interest (foreign languages, specialized mathematics, or advanced studies in the arts, are examples). The de Toledo teacher determines the content, pace, and requirements of the course, which must meet at least three times a week.
