Considered a “superfood”, Spirulina is a cyanobacteria with great nutritional value that has been used by NASA as a dietary supplement for astronauts. Participants in the program research the biochemistry of spirulina and investigate ways to grow it more efficiently. As part of a unique partnership between the dTHS Science and Global Jewish Education departments, participants have the opportunity to travel to Uganda every other year to present research findings and help the Jewish Abayudaya community in that African nation become more
food secure.
