Each student at de Toledo High School has the chance to express his or her creative spirit, be it through the visual arts, theatre, dance, music, or film.
Visual and Performing Arts
Math whizzes who act. Talmud students who dance. Biology enthusiasts who play saxophone. Book lovers who direct film. History buffs who sculpt and paint. de Toledo High School encourages all students to explore their artistic and cultural identities.
Within our Visual and Performing Arts Department, students develop skills in a variety of disciplines and acquire a deeper sense of Jewish culture through exposure to folk art traditions, as well as the work of contemporary artists in all media.
Whether students seek a joyful outlet for personal expression or a foundation for a career in the arts, de Toledo's programs offer the inspiration, resources, and instruction to dive deep and soar upward as they grow in skill and confidence.
Throughout the four years at de Toledo High School, students experience the arts as an integral part of school life, an invigorating counterpart to the general academic curriculum. Arts faculty collaborate with colleagues to develop integrated, experiential projects that enhance and deepen our students’ day-to-day-learning.

Curriculum Overview
As students become more proficient with the tools of the visual and performing arts, classes also provide a cultural lens through which to learn about the roots and meaning of arts in Jewish Civilization. For this reason, the majority of arts classes satisfy our graduation and college preparation requirements simultaneous to our Jewish Civilization education requirement.
In addition to curricular offerings, students participate in co-curricular endeavors such as musical theatre productions that are greatly enhanced by arts classes and which, in turn enrich classes in the arts and beyond.

9th Grade
Students in the 9th grade may choose to sign up for either a semester-long Jewish Arts Introduction class designed specifically for ninth grade students (more information below), or to enroll in one of the year-long Jewish Civilization art classes available to students in all grades. All 9th graders must also take a semester of Health, which is part of the Jewish Civilization requirement. -
Jewish Arts Introduction Classes
The Jewish Arts Introduction class is a unique initiative designed to give 9th grade students an awareness of the diversity of the Jewish tradition in the arts. Our arts faculty employs experiential, multi-sensorial teaching styles that engage students on a deep level. Students select one of six arts options for one semester.

9th to 12th Grade
Students in all grades may take a year-long arts course. Advanced courses have prerequisites; students must complete the beginning level course and receive teacher approval to enroll in advanced courses.
Our curriculum allows students to experiment with different arts disciplines and/or follow a track of study to hone skills in a specific area. -

Co-Curricular Offerings
